I Forgot To Remember To Forget
Elvis Presley recorded and released the single, “I Forgot to Remember to Forget”, in 1965 together with the B-side “Mystery Train”. This rockabilly/country song reached number one in the Billboard national country music chart in America. Indeed, this was the first time that Elvis got reputation as a country music star.
The Beatles’ Recording
Before The Beatles became a household name, they would often sing cover songs at their live gigs. Although they would sing many songs from the likes of Little Richard and Chuck Berry, they didn’t cover too many from Elvis Presley. However, they did cover “I Forgot to Remember to Forget”. In fact, they sang it at the Cavern Club in Liverpool where it all started for the Fab Four.
When The Beatles became recognised as a unique act capable of producing good music, they would often appear on BBC Radio programmes. They would do this as a means of promoting themselves to a much wider audience as well as self-amusement.
On the 1st May, 1964, The Beatles recorded the song at the BBC Paris Studio in London. It was for airing on the “From Us To You” radio show on the 18th May. The singer is George Harrison and he also sings in a way to capture the style of Elvis Presley.
Although the quality of the recording is not too good, it is available on their 1994 album, “Live At The BBC”.
